Hello!

My name is Thomas David Kavanagh, a photographer that shoots wedding, lifestyle and commercial portraiture. I was born and bred in Dublin, Ireland but have been living in Birmingham, England for the past decade.

I have started a photography business called Saol Photography. Saol (pronounced 'Sail') is the Irish word for 'life'. I chose this as it represents how important photography is to me as well as the type of photographs I want to make.

In this blog I will share details of how my business progresses and also the projects that I am working on. Your views and comments are greatly appreciated. All of the writing and images seen in this blog are created by me and I retain the copyright. Should you wish to use any of my images, please contact me for permission.

Thank you for taking the time to visit,
Tom :-)

Best of 2011 Pt. 3 - Engagements and Weddings

As a really harsh self-critic I had a nice realisation as I went through the wedding photographs I took last year - there are far too many that I like to put in a 'best of'.

Conscious that there are some weddings I haven't blogged (I'll catch up eventually!), here are just a few of my favourite engagement and wedding photos from last year.

No children were harmed in the making of the picture below :-)

Best of 2011 Pt. 2 - Studio Pics

More studio work is a definite this year because I enjoyed it so much. I love shooting documentary style and capturing moments on the street etc. But an image can be so powerful when the light is controlled.

I think in my heart I aspire to be more David Bailey than Martin Parr (but would be content being a fraction as talented as either!).

Best of 2011 Pt. 1 - Family Pics

I've started off this year being a 'busy bunny' behind-the-scenes working on the website and some projects. Thought the best way to start the year would be to have a look at my photographs from last year and post the highlights.

These are my favourite photographs of 2011 taken with my family. Weddings and Studio photographs to follow...

This final picture is not an advert for childline, Cullan was more than content watching TV at the time. It's all down to the lighting :-)
